Dental Crowns in South Bend, IN

Dental crowns are one step past fillings. They cover the entire part of the tooth that is above the gum line and help protect more of the natural structure. Our dentist in South Bend, IN, may recommend dental crowns to restore teeth with significant injury or decay.

Porcelain crowns may also be placed on top of a dental implant to give you the full look and function of a natural tooth. Additionally, a dental bridge requires crowns on adjacent teeth or implants to anchor it in place.

The Dental Crown Procedure

Dental crown treatment takes two or more appointments. During the first appointment, some of the natural tooth structure will need to be removed to ensure the crown fits properly. Next, our team will take impressions of your teeth and send them to the lab that will be responsible for creating your dental crown restoration. A temporary crown is placed to protect your tooth in the meantime until you return to our office for your next appointment.

During the second appointment, the permanent crown is placed on your tooth and our dentist will check to make sure there is nothing wrong with your bite and the new restoration.

Aftercare and Maintenance

Maintain your porcelain dental crown like a natural tooth. Brush twice a day and floss once daily. Brushing is incredibly important to cleaning your teeth, but sometimes food particles can get trapped between your teeth and missed by brushing, which is why flossing is so important. Also, see your dentist once every six months for a teeth cleaning and exam. Tartar, hardened plaque, causes tooth decay and can only be removed by a dental professional.
